The event was full of surprises from the get-go with guests being greeted by a magnificent robot horse in the courtyard, which delivered a spectacular show of continuous demos including fire breathing, leaving guests mesmerised by the unexpected visitor.
Mike Butcher, CEO and founder of the Europas, kicked off the conference in the grand theatre at Here East and more than 80 amazing speakers followed. Fred Destin from Accel, Anna Boffetta from Balderton Capital and Karen McCormick from Beringea were just a few of the inspiring tech giants presenting to the guests.
The day was broken up by lunch served by our in-house catering team Smart Hospitality; some of the delicious dishes included Angela Hartnett’s white onion risotto with vegetarian parmesan and rocket salad, and chargrilled chicken, baby spinach, avocado, crispy bacon and focaccia croutons. Shortly after eating and networking, delegates returned to the Here East courtyard to appreciate the city views, but were interrupted by Gravity founder Richard Browning, the real life Iron Man, who came flying round the corner in a jet-powered suit. Guests were blown away by the British inventor’s spectacle.
After more sessions by guest speakers, delegates later enjoyed a drinks and canapé reception on the private and landscaped terrace while the venue quickly transformed from a sleek conference layout to the Europas Awards Dinner and Ceremony. Twenty-eight awards were handed out to the hottest European start-ups across multiple categories.
Other than the spectacular technological innovations that entertained guests earlier in the day, other performances included a set by singer/songwriter Gabrielle Aplin and a brilliant DJ later in the evening when The Europas After-Party began. Overall, the event at Hear East was a huge success, with copious amounts of networking and top-notch conversation, balanced with an evening of celebrating and partying, of course!
