Top 10 places to have desserts in the UK

Gaining a better stance for the juggle of children, work and life provided some of the motivation for Ben to move to Smart; the other was obviously because we are Smart. With the exception of doing the Taste of London for 3 years, through Pearl by Jun Tanaka, Ben is relatively new to the industry. Fresh on the scene, ben is fresh with ideas. Whilst at Pearl restaurant as Head pastry chef he made it into the Sunday Times as top 10 places to have desserts in the UK, rightfully so, this is one of Ben’s proudest achievements.

Playful in performance

Being creative and playful with food is Ben’s passion and this is the reason why his events of choice are the smaller bespoke ones. “Events like the Cosmo awards seem to have fewer constrictions than the larger ones and give me the opportunity to try new things.”

Lessons in life

Most of all, Ben enjoys watching young chefs come through the ranks and go on to achieve great things. “I’ve been lucky as I’ve had some amazingly talented chefs work for me such as Rory Mc Donald (Exec Pastry Chef Hakkasan USA) and David Munoz (Chef/Proprietor 3* Diver XO)”

In his spare time Ben is out of the kitchen and into the restaurant, enjoying creative dishes to inspire him on his next project.  Ben likes to spend as much time with his family a possible and if the opportunity arises, take part in a spot of scuba diving.
