Smart Hospitality Triumph At Royal Ascot This Year

Thu 19 Jul 2018

Year on year, Royal Ascot is consistently the highlight of the social calendar, and this year The Village Enclosure, located a stone’s throw from the main grandstand, truly lived up to their fantastic reputations. Each year, Smart Hospitality deliver exquisite hospitality at Royal Ascot, and are dedicated to ensuring guests experience truly delicious food and entertainment, and leave with fantastic memories.

Within The Village Restaurant guests could enjoy a PIMM’S No.1 reception, delicious four-course luncheon by Smart Hospitality, a traditional afternoon tea with a twist, and complimentary beer, wine, selected spirits and soft drinks throughout the day.

Menus at The Village Restaurant varied depending on the day. Guests who attended the enclosure on the Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday enjoyed their starter of beetroot and gin-cured salmon fillet with white anchovy, cucumber ketchup and crispy capers. Their main was then a free-range Caldecott chicken breast served with buffalo mozzarella, salad of orecchiette pasta, tenderstem and summer tomatoes with a pancetta and pecorino crisp. Guests then had a fantastic choice of desserts and cheeses from food stations placed around the venue, including chocolate and cherry cups topped with pistachios.

This year we swapped out the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party theme, and instead incorporated our new 2018 festive party theme at Battersea Evolution, Around the World in 80 Days. This involved majestic hot air balloons hanging from the ceiling and delicious afternoon tea served on the baskets, which featured sweet and savoury treats from around the world. Some of these sweet treats included coconut macaroons, and baked cheesecake with a mini hot air balloon, and the savoury treats included Spanish sausage rolls, a wide selection of different sandwiches and much more.

Just a short walk away at the Villiers Club, guests had a slightly different race day experience. Included in their ticket was delicious tapas-style bowl food, traditional afternoon tea with a twist, live music and DJs, a delicious BBQ supper and an after-party until 9pm, with London’s finest mixologists serving up champagne and cocktails throughout. Catering was once again expertly delivered by our experienced caterers Smart Hospitality. Guests had plenty to choose from at the lunchtime food stations; just some of the bowl food options were hot smoked salmon with English summer greens and hollandaise, wafer thin rare beef with balsamic pickled red onions, watercress and horseradish cream, and patatas bravas with aioli and spicy tomato salsa.

After a delectable and quintessentially British afternoon tea, guests enjoyed the last of the races, as well as plenty of entertainment, including live music acts, to keep the atmosphere alive. For those who were still hungry, delectable Villiers burgers were served in the evening, with the option of adding pickles, crispy bacon, special chipotle sauce or bacon jam to their hand pressed beef patties.

We also introduced a Champagne and Seafood Bar this year, which offered guests a wide selection of extravagant seafood plates, side dishes, bar snacks, desserts and afternoon tea. One of the main plates on offer was the Fresh Seafood Platter, which included a fresh ½ lobster served in the shell with hand-picked crab, pickled prawns, Russian salad, soft brioche roll and chilli mayonnaise. Guests also had the choice of a smaller dish, such as the Pint of Prawns, which was served with sriracha mayonnaise and gem lettuce leaves with a bread flute. In terms of champagne, guests had a wide range of choice, including Bollinger Special Cuvée NV and Ayala Brut Majeur NV. Red, white, and rosé wine were of course also available, as well as selected spirits and cocktails, including a Beefeater Pink Gin one appropriately named the Royal Ascot Blush.

With all of the restaurants situated opposite the main grandstand, guests could enjoy delicious hospitality and catering from Smart Hospitality, as well as great access and fantastic views of the racecourse all day, providing the perfect base for an exquisite day of hospitality. We’ll see you next year!
