The 2018 Illegal Wildlife Conference At Battersea Evolution
Tue 23 Oct 2018
The 2018 Illegal Wildlife Trade (IWT) Conference took place at Battersea Evolution from 11th-12th October and was an opportunity to build on previous efforts of tackling the criminal trade and address the underlying issues that facilitate it. Those in attendance included Heads of Delegation, NGOs, charities, stakeholders and some famous faces including Prince William and Ellie Goulding.
Day 1 of the 2-day conference welcomed 1,500 VIPs throughout the day and then 1,200 for an evening reception, and day 2 welcomed 1,000 stakeholders. Battersea Evolution truly lived up to its versatile title for this event, transforming to accommodate an exhibition area, conference, evening reception, different catering areas, security areas, VIP spaces, and many more breakout spaces. The venue then had to transform once again overnight to welcome more guests to a slightly different event the following day. Below we give you an idea of how Battersea Evolution accommodated this topical event:
On both days, the mezzanine was the main area for VIPs to network and enjoy delicious catering in their own private area.
THE MAIN SPACE
On day 1, the Main Space was split into different sections, with 70 exhibition stalls, a 200-seated stakeholder theatre and a plenary space for 1,100 guests with a large stage for speeches.
On day 2, the Main Space was split into an exhibition area with a 200-seated theatre, plenty of space for exhibiting and a networking area. Guests could then venture into the 720-seated plenary session where more speeches took place.
Catering stations were placed around the main space for 1,000 guests on day 1 and 800 guests on day 2.
THE KITCHEN/BACK OF HOUSE AREA
On day 1, the space used for the majority of events as a kitchen and back of house area was transformed into a seating and speech area for 190 Heads of Delegation, and on day 2, a breakout session was constructed for 540 people.
Conferences, speeches and networking opportunities took place on both days, between arrival refreshments, mid-morning refreshments, lunch, mid-afternoon refreshment breaks and an evening reception on the first day, all provided by Smart Hospitality. Lunch in the main area on both days included a selection of delicious wraps, salads and sandwiches. On day 1, the mezzanine hosted Heads of Delegation, with menu items including tarragon roast breast of chicken on a bed of potato, apple and mustard salad, as well as baked Scottish salmon with a herb crust on a bed of pickled black radish and apple slaw, served with dill mayonnaise. Dessert included a selection of mini British tarts including a particularly tasty lemon meringue tart.
