Following on from Smart’s catering success at the Olympic Hospitality Centre at London 2012, we were tasked to create a send-off celebration for 5,500 LOCOG (the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games) staff at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
We created a central ‘Town Hall’ and set up Street Life - our busy, London-styled street scene from where the evening’s main food and drink was served. A series of high quality ‘pop up’ food service points were placed in a crescent shape surrounding the Hall, which allowed our guests to choose their favourite selections. We also gave our cosmopolitan group of chefs the opportunity to create a series of their own dishes, from a sizzling Paella dish to spicy bratwursts. Smart Hospitality provided all beverages and the creative selection of street food included The Bowler (meatballs served from our own grass-covered ball bus) and Spit & Roast (buffalo wings and crisp, succulent buttermilk fried chicken).
The “Streetlife” scene was dressed and enhanced by a number of park benches, a full-sized London double-decker bus serving cocktails, street signs and traditional red London phone boxes, as face painters and stilt walkers added to the party atmosphere, with painted faces in bright funky colours representative of London to Rio. As the heat and pace were turned up in ‘Streetlife’, guests were invited into the main Copper Box where the party really began with a full-on carnival party, which involved a myriad of entertainers and performers.
