On Thursday 12th October, the 2017 Rugby Captains Dinner was hosted 500ft above the City at London’s highest dedicated events space, Landing Forty Two. British and Irish Lions hero Maro Itoje and Irish rugby icon Paul O’Connell were among some of the stars to grace the venue in the heart of the capital.
Rugby enthusiasts were thrilled to experience two hosted Q&A sessions with former Lions Captains and a spectacular live auction offering once in a lifetime opportunities including a private dinner at The Savoy with Australian rugby union footballer legend Michael Lynagh.
A champagne and canapé reception was followed by a delicious three course dinner, with vibrant and bespoke dishes served to guests by Moving Venue, Landing Forty Two’s sole in-house caterer. Guests received a choice of starters, including the crispy smoked haddock risotto ball with sweetcorn cream, honey cured bacon and parsley. For the main course, guests were offered treacle roast fillet of Surrey Farm beef with fondant potato, mini steak and kidney pudding, orange glazed Chantenay carrots, carrot cream and a red wine and truffle sauce. Guests then enjoyed The Captains’ Boozy Trifle for dessert.
Tickets to the event varied by package and price: Diamond, Platinum and Gold. Diamond ticket holders spent the evening in the company of rugby captains, enjoying tables next to the stage and a premium drinks package including a magnum of champagne.
The event was incredibly proud to be supporting Willow, the only national charity working with seriously ill young adults aged 16 to 40 to fulfil uplifting and unforgettable Special Days. By the end of the night, Willow raised an incredible £55,000.
This highly-anticipated event proved to be a huge success and was highly enjoyable for both guests and Rugby Captains. Smart Sport will be hosting their official RFU hospitality packages at Twickenham and the Six Nations this autumn.
